Refrigerator guide

Slow water flow after replacing a refrigerator filter

Slow dispensing can involve the filter, trapped air, household water pressure, or the refrigerator’s water line. Use the model instructions before replacing more parts.

Confirm the filter is the exact one

Check the complete model number and filter number. A filter that fits the opening but is not listed for the model can restrict flow or fail to seal. Keep model variants such as /01 and AA intact.

Flush and reset as directed

Manufacturers commonly instruct owners to flush a new cartridge and reset the filter indicator, but the required procedure varies. Follow the manual or the filter’s official instructions rather than applying one universal volume or time.

Use the manufacturer’s diagnostic path

LG identifies the filter, household water supply, and water line as possible causes of slow dispensing. GE likewise recommends testing with the bypass plug when its instructions identify a clogged filter as a possible cause.

If flow remains slow after the documented checks, stop treating the filter as the only possible cause and use the manufacturer’s service guidance.
